hey can anyone confirm what the average SAT score is for the college of arts and sciences or any other school that you may know of. i've heard the average from the college ranges from 1350 to 1400 (out of 1600) and 2100 (out of 2400). what can you say about the accuracy of these numbers?

You need to be higher than that if you are unhooked (2200+)

But yes, in general the avg is ~2100

Where do people come up with these numbers?

they are pretty much making assumptions and guessing

i seem to recall them telling us during orientation, but that was too long ago to remember...

go to the incoming class profile and you can get a good idea

there was an average released in a Penn report a while ago. It was for all schools combined though, not just CAS. I remember it was between 2130-2140.

I read in businessweek that Wharton SAT averages for Math plus CR were about 1450 in 06.

They don't release breakdowns but the guessing is that Wharton is somewhat higher than the overall avg. (certainly higher in math), SEAS prob. higher in math, lower in verbal, nursing prob. lower in both, and when you add it all up, the CAS avg (which is a big component of the overall avg anyway because CAS is the biggest school) is roughly the same as the overall avg.

So ~2100 is a pretty good guess, but as someone said, the below 2100 slots are mostly (but not totally) reserved for "hooked" applicants so if you are "unhooked" then you should be well above 2100 if you are to have a really meaningful chance. Or as Jesus did not say, it's easier for a camel to pass thru the eye of a needle than for an Asian kid from NJ to get into Penn w/ a 600 math SAT.

^^ hahaha
that was funny

the average out of 1600 for wharton last year was 1430

i think the seas average my year was 1460, so i would estimate it's higher now.

Is the SAT score requirement same for international students? Mine is 2120/2400 and 1440/1600

There is no formal separate requirement for internationals. That being said, I think they might cut you a slight break on verbal if English is not your 1st lang. if you otherwise have excellent record, are full pay, etc. 2100 is not disqualifying, but there's a lot more that goes into the decision.
