^^^^ agreed.

I’m really worried because my daughter waited so long to apply to college. Everyone has told us that applying early (like starting in October) is very important. She just started applying mid-December.

So far she’s applied to:

University of Georgia
Ithaca College
University of Notre Dame
NYU
American University

Will be applying to Winthrop University within the next week. I feel pretty confident about Winthrop. She qualifies for Palmetto Fellows Scholarship (for South Carolina) and I’ve been told by admissions that this will automatically give her a full ride. Unfortunately, this school is not her first choice, but at least it’s a good back-up plan.

Her unweighted GPA is 4.723 and weighted is 3.85. Her SAT is 1820 and 28 ACT. I don’t know if this is good enough for NYU or Notre Dame, or even American for that matter, as the average for them seems to be higher than this.

…is anyone reading the title of this thread?

My first post as well!

I’d say I’m slightly above average, but who knows?
CC has definitely messed up my perception of myself.

SAT I: 2100
SAT II: 710 US Hist
SAT II: 740 Bio E

UW GPA: 3.5

Deferred ED from Amherst College

Applied to:

Boston University
New York University
UNC - Chapel Hill
UC Santa Barbara
UCLA
U Miami
University of Texas at Austin
Oberlin (Legacy)
Yale (Legacy)

But seriously, keep your head up everyone! If theres anything I’ve learned so far on this college application journey, it’s that we all have the potential to succeed in life (whatever success may mean to you)

There is so much more to us than our test scores and high school grades.
I can’t wait to see how life treats us all in these exciting years that await.

Best of luck to all of you on your college applications and life beyond!

Sorry for being harsh, but if a truly average student applied to Amherst (!) ED, he would NOT have been deferred, they would have been flat out rejected. A 2100 is not average. It’s nowhere near it, unless you consider having scores in the top 4% of the population to be average.

For students that are truly average, and not CC average (no an 1800 composite is not average, it puts the student in the top 18% of all test takers), there are plenty of schools that will accept you. The reality is, the vast majority of schools are basically non selective. Most state flagships in less populated ares will accept those types of students. Plenty of state directionals, often with stellar, but non competitive, departments will be happy to take in those students. Most private schools, including ones that truly “nurture” students, are absolutely fine with average scores. It’s just that CC is so dominated by prestige (as much as posters like to deny it) that most of these schools rarely get mentioned.

Apparently not. LivinginFairburn put it exactly right.

There seem to be a lot of kids here–as well as parents–who just can’t help themselves. Probably because their real-life friends are sick of talking about college applications and admissions.

Wasn’t trying to “show off” MilkyWay, and I certainly wasn’t trying to be rude. Practically everyone has been sharing their GPA and scores so I figured I’d share my daughter’s.
My main reason for posting and concern was her waiting so late to start applying, especially at American since they seem to put great emphasis on level of interest. I know my post was completely off topic, but I’ve enjoyed reading everyone’s posts, and I thought that maybe a few people could give me some good insight. Very sorry.
So everyone, please only post the schools you’ve been accepted to. Don’t post the ones you’ve applied to, but haven’t received an answer from yet, because that would be getting off topic :P

I’m pretty average. 4.09 weighted gpa and 1950 (on a single test day) 1990 with score choice on the SAT. 26 on the ACT.

I’ve been accepted to Baylor U with 50k scholarship
No decision yet on Washington & Lee U (Big reach haha), Occidental College, and Southern Methodist U.

Everyone!@LivinginFairborn just clarified that if you have more than 1750 SAT score and a 4.0 and above you are NOT average! Someone tried to make this thread so people with average stats and people not applying to Ivies wouldn’t feel self conscious about their scores-which are actually ok. PLEASE if you are NOT average ,are trying to get your chances, or haven’t gotten any acceptances do not post on this thread!

Problem is at this point some people don’t read beginning of thread…can title be changed to something like “acceptances (SAT<xxxx/xxxx, ACT< xx)” . I think that would help people browsing through.

Sort of ironic that the people who didn’t read the title (or chose to ignore it) are the ones who are “too smart” for this thread :)

GPA is a 3.52 and SAT (sent out) is 1650. (Going to resend with 1700. That was my latest.)

Everyone wondering if they are “average” should read whenhen’s excellent #20 post.

It is obvious that 1900+ scores and a 3.8 uw are not “average” or “slightly above average”. Yes, we are thrilled you’re applying to Yale, but most of us (whether students or parents) are not even contemplating it. If you are, you are not “average”.

IMHO, one of CC’s biggest downfalls is not being welcoming to non-stellar kids. It is incredibly intimidating to read that someone thinks a 2000 is “average”. Hopefully, if you are in that range you have enough emotional IQ to give some others who aren’t as academically strong a place to post.

And, for parents out there, you should really check out the 3.0-3.3 parent’s thread located at http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/parents-forum/939937-3-0-3-3-gpa-parents-thread-2013-hs-graduation.html
It is full of wonderful, supportive, and helpful parents.

This thread has the potential to also be wonderful, supportive, and helpful. Make it so.

I’m average. 3.5.

I’m definitely average. 3.6 with 1700 SAT.

I guess my school has a weird GPA system, since it’s out of 100 rather than 4.0

I have a 98.something gpa and a 2160 sat

I got into University of Pittsburgh Honors College - Pittsburgh, PA
Villanova University
Pennsylvania State University
Hoping to hear back from some others soon
fingers crossed for acceptances

Okay my bad…I didnt know there was a limit on average when I posted…peace

Above 2000 on the SAT is definitely NOT average. I don’t why I have to keep saying this. -_- please read the title on the forum and the last few posts before you decide to post your “average” stats. I am getting really tired of people with above average stats posting on here thinking that they are average.
