Average Stats of those who were accepted to Northwestern HPME

does anyone have any info about the average stats of those who were accepted there
also if u have been accepted or are going there could u please post ur stats
thank you

Wait about a week. HOPEFULLY I'll be able to respond. :)

did u get an interview ivyboy???
also could the people who got interviews post too

basically I think to get an interview, you should have 1500+, and 700+ on all 3 required SAT II's, preferably even above 750.

That's one part of the criteria, the others are a strong display of involvement in medicine -- volunteer work, research etc, (it doesn't really matter what), good recs and a solid essay.

I presume all 137 have those requirements. SAT above 1500 , SAT II's etc. etc. etc.

SAT I - 1490 (710V, 780M)
SAT IIs - 660 Math IIC (although i got a 750 on the january testing, which they didn't take into account), 740 Writing, 750 Chemistry
No volunteer or hospital work at all. My only hospital experience, which i talked about, was going to the hospital when I was a little kid. GREAT HPME essay however.

Go figure. I was more than happy to be interviewed :) Let's hope I made a good impression

haha ivyboy, what is it that you think made you really stand out? You mentioned a great essay, is there anything else?

Hey ivyboy05, think you could elaborate a little more about yourself than just test scores? rank/extracurriculars/awards/race/gender would help future students in gauging their own chance.

could u please post ur essay or atleast give us an idea of what u wrote about
also how many people are usually selected for an interview and how many end up making it in???

ivyboy05, good luck! i'm a fellow HPME applicant...maybe we'll both make it!

about 140 for interview, about 60 end up making it in

Ok fineeeeee

My school doesn't rank, but i'm in the top 15%....really small school by the way. I am white, so that may have had something to do with it. I dont know. I am the president of my school, member of and former leadership position in a club that helps raise money for worldwide funds, started a club that acts out books for the local childrens hospital, and i do a bunch of other community service stuff.

My essay was well written in the short time i wrote it in(about 3 hours...who DIDN'T wait till the deadline? I got to the post office 5 minutes before it closed. No joke). Anyway, it was about how I felt the doctors were so smart and brilliant when i was a little kid and how i spent about a year at the hospital with my mom who was helping my grandpa through cancer. Then i talked about how I enjoy helping people and why I want to be a doctor. But I used DETAILED examples of how I help people, and not just medically (cause honestly, i have like no medical experience except for bandaging up some girl who got hurt on a camping trip). I threw into the essay my ECs and my determination.

Hope this helps you. Who knows if it helped me! AH! THEY MAIL THEM OUT TOMMOROW!!!!!!!! Good luck all present and future applicants!

jeez what happened to emailing people their admissions decisions? we're in the 21st century! why do we have to wait for SNAIL MAIL lol

well, i got interviewed, for what it'll be worth in a few days :S...

1600/800/800/800 SATs, pretty much almost sorta straight As (we have a whack grading system), but minimal science/medical exp. Two years of hospital volunteer exp and leadership positions at school.

Isn't it true tho that after you make the interview round, that that's kind of all that matters? They won't look back at your file unless they're really stuck between you and someone else. Someone confirm --? I think that's how it goes.

neom - they email to overseas kids, hehehe but not until apr 1; everyone will receive within a few days of eachother.

damn, nice scores mea

(bleh, hehe, thanks.)

Yeah. Eve said that once you get offered interviews, then the grades, scores, etc. dont really matter. You're academically qualified. Now they want to know if you're cut out to be a doctor in a rigorous program or what.

yeah, sounds right

Eve does not make the decisions. As I said earlier, the one who interviews you,
(student & faculty) is not on the admission committee. The interviewer (student and the faculty) gives you a numerical score.
All scores are added up (for ex. your SAT & SAT II's or ACT ) & you get a numerical score. Your EC's give you a score. Your class rank gives you a score, and so on. The final tally of all the scores gives you a rank, and the first 60 will be accepted. If not it will be absolutely difficlt to select from the 137.

Good luck to all of you.

holy cow, that's like UCSD's admissions....(I trust you got that from a reliable source ivyleague, yes?). Scary stuff.
