Do I have a chance for Vassar or New York Univeristy?

Are Egyptians a URM even though I listed white on the Common App and specified I was an Egyptian?

Is there any possibility that I can get the Martin Luther King Scholarship for minorities from New York University based on my stats?

Thanks Guys!

I’ll leave it to others more knowedgable about Vassar’s and NYU’s policies regarding URMs to answer, but I am not familiar with too many schools that view US citizens of Middle Eastern or Egyptian descent as underrepresented minorities (not that I necessarily agree with that perception).

I think one of your biggest challenges at both schools, but particularly at Vassar, are your standardized test scores. You should use your ACT score, which is the equivalent of a 2000 on the SAT according to the concordance charts. Based on the fact that you are taking SUNY Spanish V I am guessing you live north of the NYC metro area. The good news for you at Vassar is that your application will be put in a pile of apps from Upstate NY students and will not be read by the same admissions officer responsible for reading apps from the high-powered NYC, Westchester and LI schools.

So will that up my chances of getting into the school? How so?
