Do I have a chance for Vassar or New York Univeristy?

Are Egyptians a URM even though I listed white on the Common App and specified I was an Egyptian?

Is there any possibility that I can get the Martin Luther King Scholarship for minorities from New York University based on my stats?

Thanks Guys!

You look decent for Vassar and NYU. I have no idea about the Egyptian thing, I think you are white but I would ask an admissions counselor.

I do not know either the Vassar or NYU standards well enough to criticize, but why would you take Math Level I and II tests? That’s the same as taking AP Biology one year and then honors Biology the next semester. Pick one and stick with it, preferably Math II, as it has an easier curve and it doesn’t have that much more than Math I.

I’m taking Mathematics Level I and II so that if I screw up on one of the exams I’ll have the other to back it up and it only costs 9 bucks more :P

as a current vassar student and and previous applicant with similar stats, you have a pretty good chance. but really work on your apps…it can REALLY make it happen. essay topic sounds too cliche. stay away from “made me a better person” essays unless it’s very specific about how it’s made you better personally (eg mine was about time management)

It’s really pointless to take both, but to each his own.

I think you’re slightly below par for both, but wanting to major in math is a plus for Vassar because they want more majors in that dept (although there’s a decent amount, it’s not a bad dept!). Vassar’s great for pre-med, you’ll have a lot of company. And go ahead and take both math I and II, it’s a good idea.
Good luck!

According to the U.S. government, a Egyptian is white even if he/she is as brown as First Lady Michelle Obama. You can forget the URM hook.

Any advice on what angle to take on our admissions essay? I need to make a lasting impression. May I ask you what your topic of choice was?

I got in… I wrote about my emotional connection with my pet rat and her descent into cancer… it’s an offbeat topic, I was told by a private admissions counselor to not waste my time on an essay about a rodent, but I think admissions appreciated a unique perspective
