average student: liberal arts colleges and UC schools

I'm Asian-American. I attend public school, a junior. My family is in the dreaded middle income zone - not poor enough to get many need-based aids, yet not rich enough to be comfortable without help.

Please help me if you can; I'm dying of curiousity. I think my list is unrealistic, yet I'm a fool full of hope.

Thanks!

you applied to some really challenging LACs. with your SAT scores i'm not sure you're competitive for most of the colleges on your list. raise them and i think you have a shot at some of them

You will do best at SAT optional schools unless you raise your score 200 points plus. You have a good class rank but you're an ORM from an overrepresented state. Your ECs don't help. You should do fine at the UC schools though with a shot at the top 3. Try to raise the SATs to make those more sure.

start looking at the upper mid leval LAC....there are many fine schools in this group....look at those with a high endowment per student rato to help with the money.....see link below..every school on this list can and will help with the money and they are all very good schools...

Ratings on a scale of: high reach, reach, semi-reach, good fit, likely, safety.

Swarthmore... HIGH REACH.
Wellesley... HIGH REACH.
Reed... HIGH REACH.
Williams... HIGH REACH.
Middlebury... HIGH REACH.
Amherst... HIGH REACH.
Haverford... HIGH REACH.

I agree with the other posters about your SAT scores being a bit too low for you to seriously consider getting into the schools you've listed. Based on the information you've posted, I'd say you're and excellent candidate for SAT optional schools towards the middle of the LAC spectrum. Some suggestions (the * schools are SAT optional):

REACH: Lafayette College (PA), Pitzer College* (CA), Skidmore College (NY), St. Olaf College (MN), University of Richmond (VA), University of Rochester (NY)

SEMI-REACH: American University (DC), Bennington College* (VT), Bucknell University (PA), Denison University* (OH), Franklin & Marshall College* (PA), Furman University (SC), Kalamazoo College (MI), Occidental College (CA), Pepperdine University (CA), Rhodes College (TN), Union College* (NY), Ursinus College* (PA), Villanova University (PA), Wheaton College (MA)

GOOD FIT: Allegheny College (PA), Antioch College* (OH), Belmont University (TN), Clark University (MA), Drew University* (NJ), Elon University (NC), Emerson College (MA), Fairfield University (CT), Juniata College* (PA), Loyola College in Maryland (MD), Muhlenburg College* (PA), Providence College* (RI)

LIKELY: Berry College (GA), Bryant University (RI), Hood College (MD), Philadelphia University (PA), St. Lawrence University* (NY), Stonehill College (MA)

Holy Cross and Bowdoin are 2 very good LAC's that are SAT optional.

Reality hits. =D Better now than later. Thanks for your help, everyone!

I made a new list. Many of the colleges are high-end, mainly because I would rather go to my state school than spend a hulking amount of money going to an expensive college only slightly better than my state school. Thanks again for your help!
