Average Student Looking for Film Programs

I'm an average student who gets some A's, mostly B's, and a few C's. I don't know what my GPA is because I'm only going into my junior year but I think it's probably somewhere in the high 2's to mid 3's. I want to be a screenwriter after college so I'm looking for colleges and universities with an undergraduate film program that I could potentially get into (I don't think I'd have a shot at USC, UCLA, NYU, or Cal Arts). As far as location, I'm looking for large schools (preferrably IN a city) in either California or New York City. I did play with the idea of going to a university in the UK and Ireland which would be my dream (all my favorite television and most of my favorite directors and writers are from there) but I didn't know how to go about it since a) my grades aren't top notch, b) I'm not familiar with how applying to universities over there works, and c) my family is rather poor and all I've heard is that it is expensive for Americans to go to university over there. Finally, I haven't taken the PSATs or SATs yet but I'm a VERY good test-taker and I'm fairly confident I'll get a great score compared to my expected GPA (mainly due to the fact that my fair grades are due to missed work rather than bad test and quizz grades).

Loyola Marymount, Pepperdine, and Chapman are probably your best bets. Santa Clara is also a possibility, maybe the University of San Francisco too.

Just throwing it out there, George Lucas went to community college, then transferred into USC. Screenwriting is something you have to devout a lot of time to, and at a CC…you’ll have more time to focus on writing. Especially if you are financially struggling a bit, you’ll save a significant amount of money.

Perhaps this isn’t what you wanted to hear, but don’t take an elitist approach of “I just can’t go to a community college”. I’ve been at one for a year, and have more free time, money, have had great professors, and very similar classes to my four-year school peers (in fact, I’ve helped multiple of them in calculus, chemistry, and physics).
