it seems as though everyone on this board is worried about getting into Harvard or Yale. so my question is, are there any average students out there?! by average i mean GPA between 2.5-3.6 and SAT scores between 1000-1200. i would like to know your stats and the schools you are looking at!

3.3 gpa
1000 SAT that i took last year....i'm re-taking it in november and trying to get a 1200

im looking at many schools

There are many "average" students here --- and there are lots of great colleges out there for you as well.

yep carolyn is right. In fact, last month I got accepted to one of my safety schools, Florida International University, and its actually a pretty good four year university. If I get rejected from all other schools, I'll happily attend there.

Im average, I believe like top 30% of class. I just took my first act so I can't really give you a score.

Congratulations Cookie Monster! It's nice to have a safety in the bag and will make all your other acceptances that much sweeter ;)

I will add two stories from last year's group of CC seniors. We had a girl with a 2.8 average and SATs in the mid-1000's - she was accepted at Hartwick College (NY - a great liberal arts school), Salisbury State in Maryland, and Catawba College in NC. She chose Catawba. We also had a member - a male - who had a 2.9 GPA and 1100 SATs. He was accepted at Lake Forest College (IL), Goucher College (MD), and St. Louis University. I can't recall which school he chose in the end but the point is, he had a choice of some great schools!

Just so you "average" students know, when it comes to the averages, most students who apply to college are accepted to their first choice college. That's because most colleges in this country accept the majority of their applicants.

The reason why there are so many students flocking to this site who have sky high grades, scores and amazing ECs is that those are the type of students who have to worry about getting into their first (or second or even third) choice college. That's because since they have a chance of getting into the country's most selective colleges, they "stuck" with then trying to get into colleges that may accept as few as one in ten applicants.

Students with less stellar transcripts don't have such worries. Thus, they aren't hanging around here obsessively posting their anxieties and looking for reassurance.

i have to disagree with you northstarmom. while most colleges do accept most students, it doesn't mean average students don't have reaches. and reaches = nervous students = students on collegeboard. therefore, i was trying to reach students that are more average (statistically) like me b/c i know there is still a number of them on this site.

I honestly don't think a lot of average students are lurking and posting on these kind of boards. From what I have seen of average students, when they want information or support, they don't bother to go to Google to look for help. I think they're more likely to rely on people in real life. Just because average students might be nervous about college doesn't mean that this is the kind of place they'd come to.

umm ok? so are you trying to say that statistically average students aren't as driven as straight 'A' students? god forbid "average" students enjoying the college process and being excited about it!

"From what I have seen of average students, when they want information or support, they don't bother to go to Google to look for help. I think they're more likely to rely on people in real life."

where do you get these "facts?" from one or two people you have observed?
