"Average" students...

I was wondering if there were any average students in CC, meaning that they have average GPAs and don't go nuts studying, but also manage to make decent grades. I'm talking about "B" students mainly...

I myself am one of them, although it's not something I am particularly proud of. I have a 3.0 GPA and I'm sure I'm in the minority here at CC where most of yous have 4.0 GPAs and above.

Just wondering.. :)

Compared to CC, I am average. I have a 3.56ish (B+ student). I don't really care though, I tried my hardest but had a life =].

Woot for us!

high fives :)

What grade are you in btw, romanigypsyeyes?

11th.

How about you?

Same.

What colleges are you applying to?

Compared to other people on CC I am totally average, in my school I'd say I'm a bit above average, at least in some classes.
School isn't my top priority I like having a life.

I'm applying MSU (Michigan State University), Albion, Oberlin, and maybe Michigan.

How about you?

i consider myself pretty average. 3.2 weighted. no honors/ap classes. i get tired of self-proclaimed 'average' cc-ers who only have a 3.7 and 3 APs. pretty nice to see some others like me here.

i also never (literally) study for tests, but still usually wind up with getting a B or so on them.

I think i'm pretty average. i have a 3.4 gpa and got a 30 on my act. I actually play sports and do things i actually like.

I have waited for a thread like this.

3.42 GPA, 28 ACT, only 3 APs taken in high school so far (and I'm a junior). That's average for ya

To be honest, I'm finding some of your guys' comments to be somewhat offensive..."School isn't my top priority I like having a life"..."I tried my hardest but had a life"..."I actually play sports and do things i actually like".

I myself am definitely above average with a high GPA. I play sports. I do things I like. Never use "having a life" as an excuse for anything. I consider myself, an above average student, to have a life as well. most aof your comments are implying that above average students don't have lives.

are you using the following scale for gpa?
90+ = 4.0
85-89 = 3.5
80-84 = 3.0
75-79 = 2.5
70-74 = 2.0

I consider myself an average student for the simple fact that I don't feel that I study as hard as I should. Not to mention that my friends are mostly higher ranked and more involved in ECs than I am. I struggle to maintain certain grades while they(some) study less and thus, have more time to be involved.
Also, I would be considered average in the universities I'm aiming for :-(.
(Emory, U. Miami, Tufts)

I agree wih zenythz

It seems like using the phrase "I have a life" for an excuse for your so-called average grades is an insult not only to the people who make better grades but also to yourself. Do you truly believe that you're not living up to your full academic potential solely because you think doing so would leave you devoid of a life? If so maybe you lack the intellectual capacity to even reach such a potential. Also the view of "having a life" is a tad elitist in that it makes you seem better off than others because you "do" have a life while they apparently only make good grades.

My GPA is a bit under 3.7 UW.

PSAT score was 187. SAT score so far is 1890. ACT - 28. I hardly ever study. I don't really care that much about grades, and neither do my parents. I don't have a billion extracurricular activities or any fancy awards.

I guess you could say I am average by CC standards. lol

I'm pretty average too. I have about a 3.4ish GPA, 1950 SAT, and I only do a couple ECs. I slack off WAY too much.

Is a 3.8 UW average?

^^^ Not really. I'd say above average.

Dude, zenythz and MJ582, I meant I could've had a well-above average GPA, but instead of studying I chose to go out with my friends. Don't take it as offensive, nobody said anything was wrong with it.

I didn't mean to offend anyone with my post.
I probably used a stupid choice of words, I just mean it that way, that most of my teachers suck and don't like to see a student talking back to them and thinking for him- or herself. I confronted more than one of my teachers during my 11 years of school and I think that's part of the reason why my grades are only average. If I hadn't done that I probably would have gotten a long with the majority of my teachers a lot better.
So to sum it up, with the phrase having a life I mean the choice of saying what one want to say, as long as it's justified.
And not do be misunderstood again, I'm totally fine if people decide to be adapted to everything and don't say their opinion out loud if it doesn't conform with the teacher, for the sake of their grades.
Most times I find that my attitude is probably one of the silliest things to do if one likes having high grades.
And please keep in mind, that in Germany a good part of the grades are made of the participation in class, so it is possibly having straight As on all the tests and exams and still ending up with a low B or C because the teacher doesn't accept any other opinion but his or hers.
