What are the Average UC GPA’s for UCB, UCLA, UCSD, UCI

UCB: 3.94
UCLA:4.13
UCSD: 3.9
UCI:3.61

^^This is from the 2005 edition of the Newsweek/Kaplan publication.

yeah those numbers aren't really right. It's more like UCLA and Berkeley are 4.2ish, UCSD is 4.05ish and UCI is 3.91. At least for UC gpa.

wait
for UC gpa : we recalculate with only 4 honors 1year-classes right?

UCB is 4.3 average-- of course using UC gpa calc's

Wow
i think in the UC website, it says that UC gpa only includes 4 honors 1year-class grades..
Considering one has like 6 classes each year (soph and junior), that means the highest gpa one can get is 4.33.

I don't think that is right, I recall they take 8 Hon/AP, but my memory may be wrong. I feel pretty sure about the 4.3W. But you just need to look at the website to be sure.

You can add up to 8 "bonus points" for 8 semesters of honors/AP courses.

I think mine's about a 4.22...I raise an eyebrow when someone says they have a 4.5 UC GPA, because I think that's impossible.

so practically its 4 full years of honors course right?

UCB: 4.16
UCLA: 4.10
UCSD: 4.05
UCI: 3.91

Is this the average GPA of students accepted? Or is this the average GPA of the students who enrolled?

I sure hope it's the GPA of those admitted.

It's of those admitted.

I stopped trying to understand uc gpa- it's like some special code I can never crack :p

UC GPA is screwy. It makes no distinction between someone who took four honors classes during their sophomore and junior years and someone who took eight AP's.

i've given up on trying to understand it. I have no idea how they ever came up with such a weird system

My D is ELC. I was told by the ELC office that her UC GPA is 4.43.

Max UC is 4.5. A lot of qualified people have 4.5 UC GPA. Mine was 4.34...guess it was good enough for UCLA.

Actually, calculating the UC gpa is rather simple, once you understand their system:

1) only Soph & Jr grades count;
2) only academic core courses count, i.e., no PE, health;
3) bonus points to only UC-approved honors courses (approved bonus point classes for your HS can be found on pathways), and all AP courses;
4) few Soph classes count for the bonus point -- any AP course taken Soph year, and Honors courses typically taken in Jr year, such as Honors Pre-Calc, do count. But, honors Geom and Honors English II (soph version) do not.

The only way to get an official UC max of 4.5 is by taking only 4 academic courses in your Soph and Jr years. They ALL could be honors/AP or combinations honors/ap and college prep, but official UC policy limits credit for 8 semesters worth of bonus points, i.e., 4 full year classes. More importantly, since most colleges want to see FIVE academic courses, taking only 4 academics is not exactly considered a full load without other extenuating circumstances, i.e., need to work to support family, etc.

While some campuses may deviate from official policy (by a wink and nod), it is likely few top kids have a 4.5 since they should be taking more than 4 classes a year.

epiphany: your D would've received a letter from UC in the fall. Did it specifically state that her calculated gpa was 4.43, or was that advice from your HS GC?
