Does anyone know what the average undergrad GPA is at Rice?

I don’t know what the average GPA is, but you can get an idea of how high it has to be to receive certain honors here: [Academic Honors: Main | Office of the Registrar | Rice University](Academic Honors)

Sorry to hijack your thread, Soy Sauce, but does anyone know the average grades of people in General Chem/Orgo Chem?

Wait a minute… does Rice restrict which undergrads can apply to law/med school? It says,
It doesn’t mean that I need a 3.9+ just to apply to law/med school from Rice, right?

No they dont limit.

I believe that is just for people who want to mark on their applications that they were in the top 10%

Can’t say for certain, but I’m sure it’s respectable, low-to-mid-3.0ish?

As for gen. chem and orgo, it really depends on a number of things. Most of my friends have scraped by with at least a B-

Rice doesn’t limit med school/law school applicants - and Rice students are very successful in getting into good schools. I know that some kids worry that they will not be able to make good grades since all the other students are also so bright and motivated. If you put in the effort you’ll be fine!

Thanks for the input everyone. So the 70th percentile for the last commencement year (2008-09) was 3.759,
85th percentile was 3.892,
90th percentile was 3.937,
95th percentile was 4.011.

Any statisticians out there able to estimate a mean? Does it look like a bell curve?
