Why is it that whenever I check class profile stats of NYU, they always seem to be lower than you would expect them to be? For instance, on TPR, the avg gpa is a 3.6 with a 29 on the ACT. But if someone were to post those stats on CC, they would be told "NYU is a reach, etc."? Does NYU somehow dumb their stats down to attract more applicants so they get more money?

According to NYU itself, the average stats are a 3.63 GPA and a 28-32 ACT, so that's not too far off from what The Princeton Review says.. Those are similar stats for schools of the same "ranking" as NYU (even though many similar schools have higher acceptance rates, such as UW-Madison.)

average sat score for CAS ~1410 for Stern 1441, most are in top 10% of class, those are the only two figures that really matter. GPA is meaningless since theres no uniformity among High Schools.

1410 is the 75th percentile not the average are you kidding me

perhaps the average score for is for all schools, CAS, tisch, stern, GSP, etc.

I don't think a great SAT or ACT is an assurance to acceptance. OTOH, a not fantastic score is not an exclusion to admittance.

There are students with perfect SAT scores that don't get admitted to Ivies. the 'formula' is more than a number.

JMNSHO

1410 is not the average for CAS. people on this board do tend to make it seem like your stats must be ridiculously impressive. the stats given by nyu are generally accurate, with an exception for students whose essays or interviews (or possibly connections) may make up for a lack in those stats. just so you know, you should always try to bank on personality/passion over stats (not to say you should slack off in class or assume you don't need good grades/test scores to get in). stern is probably the exception though, along with some CAS majors.

1410 is that stats the nyu reports to princetonreview and in literature to be the average GPA (remember, GSP kids are left out)
