well great! im screwed.

If you don't mind flong, what are your stats?

uhm...
i have a 3.4 uw, a 4.0 w (took 3 aps 1 hr juinor year, 3 hr soph year, 2 hr fresh year)
2140 sat 1 one sitting 730 cr 720 w 690 m
730 math 2c 670 physics
microsoft internship (2 years)/300+tutoring hours (free)
im single parent
"low income" since my dad works in korea and sends us money.

I've really..given up. i made a mistake of taking difficult courses freshman/sophmore year and it really effed up my gpa. ; /. i've been rejected by Northwestern, COrnell, UCLA, Berkeley, Tufts and then deferred by michigan (probably rejected). so Wesleyan im just expecting a think envelope. i've never been this demoralized before.

Weird. I'm pretty sure your stats are better than mine. I'm riding 800 math, but still 640 writing and 680 crit reading. I killed my GPA jr. year-- got kicked out of IB courses from missing too much school. Luckily, I rode that out w/ nat'l merit semi-finalist (which is now finalist). I also lost my AP classes for jr. year and thus so i didn't take any ap tests last year. I fixed that by rolling 6 APs this year... And then I bombed my SAT IIs with a 620 in US History.

And despite my completely messed up record, I received my acceptance last Tuesday. Honestly, I have no idea how I made it into Wesleyan. I think it has something to do with my perseverance through all of my mishaps. Maybe it's because I was a "Super Student" in elementary school =P

Directed to flong: I wouldn't give up hope-- I would think you'd make it in. I'm sorry about your rejections. I've had two from Haverford and Dartmouth in the past 3 days-- it def. sucks. Good luck in the rest of your acceptance process.

oh well. college apps and me just dont get along. i should be happy im going to UCSD and move on. ALthough i do really feel i got cheated

Flong, I feel your pain haha. So far I've been accepted at my very-safe safety school and waitlisted at four of the other schools I applied to. Wesleyan's the only one I'm waiting to hear back from, and I'm not too hopeful.

However, Wesleyan's all about having a diverse student body. Even though collegeboard shows that the majority of their student population has great scores and GPA's, they take other things into consideration too. And I personally don't think a 2140 is anything to scoff at!

Don't give up until you get the letter, because you never know. And if you're waitlisted, there's still a chance.

ive really lost all forms of optimism. This year has really underscored how getting into the top schools requires serious connections albeit legacy/money/race/athleticism or seriously having tremondous test and academic scoring. This year for UCLA, many many applicants with good gpas and solid sat scores at my school got denied (i.e. like 30 applicants with 3.8 uw and 2100-2190). The benchmark for certain stats and test scores have been steadily rising and this year it really hit me how difficult getting into the top tier schools are.

Granted Wesleyan may emphasize different factors but overall test stats/gpa will make up a chunk of the decisions and with the newer super applicants who had 3.9's and 2200+ i've really been pushed to the point where ive lost faith in the college system and how they "look" at applicants as people rather than stats.

Granted, im venting out of frustration and bitterness, it will be scary knowing each successive year, the benchmark to be accepted at certain schools will rise

Yeah.. I definitely agree with flong. The higher tier schools are much harder to get into than I thought they were.

My 4 reaches were Amherst, North Western, Dartmouth, and Swarthmore. I was straight-out rejected from all of them except Swarthmore.... And the only reason why I'm not straight-out rejected from Swarthmore is because I haven't gotten my decision letter yet =P.

Did you receive a rejection from Wes today? You sound like it..

No i posted that yesterday and havent gotten anyhting from Wesleyan. but im expecting a small, business sized envelope
