Avoiding the ACT??? (Urgent)

So our school requires all students to take the ACT at a certain date, and I’m not sure how to get out of it.
I cannot complete the ACT on time, ever, and for me, it’s just simply much more difficult than the SAT. If I miss the testing, I would have to make it up on Saturday. I heard that I can’t cancel the scores for the ACT if they are given by the school for curriculum evaluation…
Is this true? If not, how would I get out of testing at all?
And please do not reply with, “colleges would take your highest score” or similar comments. I am very certain that I would score very poorly, and if it is not cancellable, colleges would be able to view it.

It is your HS policy so you need to deal with in in your local school. I suggest you start by speaking with your HS guidance counselor. If you feel strongly enough to ask your parents to get involved they can follow up with the guidance counselor or even the principal.

Keep in mind that at almost every college you have the choice of what standardized test to send with your application so you can just send in your SAT if they are better. You don’t need to send the ACT to colleges. If the ACT appears on your HS transcript you should again speak to your guidance counselor about getting it wiped off and ask your parents to follow-up if necessary.

And FWIW I know a number of admissions officers and colleges DO use your highest scores be it SAT or ACT so I wouldn’t spend too much time worrying about it. And some colleges are also test optional.

Be sick that day

Will they refuse to issue your high school diploma if you don’t take the exam?

@austinmshauri I do not think so.
@happy1 There are certain schools that require all scores to be sent regardless of whether I don’t want them sent or not. I personally do not believe in superscoring or selective score evaluations for highly competitive colleges considering that those institutions would be attempting to nitpick the worst of a student’s application to turn them down.

–I did say “almost” every college so.I do understand that some colleges ask for all testing.

–You can believe what you will but I know admissions officers at top (Ivy and equivalent) colleges and they do not lie about what they look at.

–In any event this is something you have to settle with your HS.

If your high school won’t keep you from graduating without the ACT, why not just stay home that day?

OP has said they would be required to make it up.

There are very few colleges that would require your ACT score if you are submitting SAT scores. Make sure you are not worrying for nothing.

@alooknac, The make up exam is on a Saturday. OP doesn’t have to go then either.

Would the high school register the ACT as a “zero” if I don’t show up on Saturday either? Also is it true that school-provides ACT aware uncanncellable?

What does your high school policy say? Have your parents read it?

If you take the SAT and do well, there is no need to submit the ACT score. So if you are sure the SAT is test for you don’t worry about this “mandatory ACT”
