I am not at all associated with the Admissions office, I am just here to answer any questions or concerns anyone has about AOF.

Why select all-boys? What are the pros & cons u have experienced?

I chose an all boys school (AOF) because it offered some of the different things I was looking for in a school that a co-ed school couldn’t. The Pros are a more relaxed setting where boys don’t feel pressured during the day to impress girls. This leads to more dynamic conversations in class, and less stress. Another pro in Avon’s case is that the books you read are mainly about males which makes the some of the books more enjoyable to read because you can relate to them more. Avon also has two girls schools within a 5 minute bus ride (Miss Porters and Ethel Walkers), and girls are constantly on campus during the weekend. A last pro and most important one is that the school feels like a brotherhood which runs deep, and makes the community that much closer knit than any other school can say. The Cons are obvious, there are no girls here so you have to be a little more social with the sister schools to maintain relationships. Another con is that everyone is held to a higher standard to obtain the brotherhood feel so rules are sometimes very strict. I hope this helps.

Thanks, prepkid! Single-sex education offers a lot of advantages. I wish more kids would be willing to look at it.
