Awaiting ED notification

My S still has 5 applications that are in process - meaning - he has sent them all the common application and his high school has sent the required transcripts/recommendations. What he is awaiting is ED notification. If rejected/deferred he will complete supplements (most essays are repeats and can be cut and pasted fairly easily). At that time I will send the application fees for these 5 schools.

Question - do colleges notice and take into consideration the fact that the student seems to be "hedging" awaiting ED notification? Do they notice and take into consideration that $ for application process is sent after the 15th of December. (These 5 RD colleges have deadlines of January 1 and January 15). I just feel that $300 can be better spent on some other things than wasting the $ on applications that may not be necessary. Any thoughts? Should I send $ now?

There is absolutely no way that my S will complete the 5 supplements now.

Thanks

This is exactly the way my D's high school handled things, saving parents some money. I don't think the colleges will ever notice or give a flip that these apps came in at the last moment. I think they kind of go into a big bin and get opened and processed by clerical people as they get to them, no particular special order outside of ED.

No, don't worry about it. I think most students get their applications sent near to the deadline, regardless of any ED/EA application. I know my friends and I spent winter break writing essays and getting our applications sent out!

Save your money until you know. Good luck to your son!

If you have ever seen an admissions office after the winter break, you'll know that it makes no difference. At midnight, is when many of the online applications get the send button. Has little to do with ED, but with procrastination.

No harm in waiting. Even if they pay attention to the date the app was submitted, which is unlikely, they won't care that he waited until after ED decisions to send in RD applications. Thousands of kids do this.

EXCEPTION: If any of the applications "in process" are for rolling admissions schools, send them in NOW. Waiting could prejudice him at those schools.

Just date your check December 14...

thank you all
