Award Letter from Financial Aid Office

Still haven’t received ours… I’m in Ohio so there is no reason it should take this long to arrive if mailed last Friday.

We haven’t received anything in Maryland yet either. We were ecstatic with my son’s merit award in the letter last December, so it’s all good for us.

Received son’s letter today in Texas. Exactly the same amount of merit aid as mentioned in earlier award letter - disappointed as his stats were in the middle of the top award range but offer was $20,000 exactly. Was hoping for something closer to the max obviously since we’re OOS.

What they putting as COA ? We still haven’t got ours yet and we live in IL.

Illinois here too. Nothing yet.

We received our FA packet yesterday. Exactly what was offered previously, plus an unsubsidized loan. We’re in Ohio.

Mine didnt come today either, so I called FA, they told me now they still sending them out and If I dont get it by next Friday then I should call them, online site is having some technical difficulties so they are not posted yet on mymiami portal…

My son got his today. Same merit award he was told with his acceptance with the addition of a $4,000 TEACH grant. Can anyone give me some insight to what that entails?

@perch1024 - don’t know anything about it, but did a google search.

http://studentaid.ed.gov/types/grants-scholarships/teach

Got it yesterday. Son’s merit award increased b/t January and now, from $9k to $12k in-state per year. Very happy and surprised by this upgrade.

@perch1024 Thats nice to hear your son got 4K extra, is that each year ? What is your sons Major.
Looks to me it has to do with Major. I always feel these schools have ways to increase funding, if they short you in one place then they try to fill that Gap by some other means, they have many Resources on their hands to play with numbers so they can give you a good pkg.

My above statement dosent apply to state of IL :((

@dadfor2014. He is an education major. If he accepts the grant he has to commit to teaching in a low income high need district for each year he takes it, or it will convert to a loan he has to pay back.

Finally arrived in Fla. Nothing changed from earlier award notice. Disappointing, but no surprise. DD has credentials quite a bit higher than minimum top level, but only offered 1/2 OOS. But previously invited to Honors.

Interesting that, unlike other University offers she has received, Miami doesn’t include books in its COA. So that adds potentially a couple grand to bottom line and doesn’t seem to be figured into award/need/merit calculation, as the others seem to.

^^ MU on the back of the Letter mention to Add $4050 for Books, personal, Transportation and Misc Expenses.

We received our notice today too. Same as back in December. Does anyone know if award amount goes up as tuition goes up?

I think if it says " FULL Tuition" then if tuition goes UP it is covered. But if its a number like 24k then that will stay.

Thanks. my sons’s isn’t full tuition, but if he chooses to go there, hopefully it won’t go up too much.

^^ They do go up but not that high. Plus after first year they have scholarships for higher Achieving Students so try to get one of those if possible, they will Fill the Gap and even give him more depending on each Scholarship.
Plus Stafford Loan amount goes higher per year If your son planning to use those.

I believe that R&B has gone considerably up in the last few years.
