Awards/Achievements that look good? (not math/science related)

What are some awards or achievements that would look good on a college application?

I've found several for math and science such as USAMO, Intel, Siemens, Science Olympiad Awards, but no "prestigious" achievements for students interested in the humanities (for me, specifically business, economics, or writing)

Has anyone heard of any??

If you like writing, look into this, it’s pretty competitive to be accepted to: [Asian American Journalists Association – Apply to JCamp 2013, An Unparalleled Training for High School Students](http://www.aaja.org/2013-jcamp/)

(And is not open to only Asians)

honestly you don’t need to win a prestigious award to automatically be considered for good schools. just do what you love and it will show.

being a presidential scholar though looks amazing.

I’ve participated and won a couple business challenges. They’re a lot of fun, introduce you to important people (professors, CEOs, etc.), and (some) give you some money.

You can participate in debates, join a dance group and compete regional/nationally, race cars, compete in a competitive sport. There a lot of things that will allow you to receive recognition.

Scholastic Writing Awards

there’s a lot for writing. you have awards, and then you have literary journals.

YoungArts
Scholastic Arts and Writing Awards
Polyphony HS
The Blue Pencil
The Adroit Journal

and lots more. you just have to look around for them.

for business and economics, there’s FBLA (you can start one in your school if there isn’t one already). you could try investing in the stock market (I think if you’re successful enough, it’ld be a unique EC). math ECs might actually apply here too.

There’s TASP, a really prestigious summer program in the humanities, one of the only things that’s equivalent to the programs the OP mentioned.

Girls/Boys State is also good, it’s only a week and it’s FREE. Contact your American Legion.
