Awards and Extracurricular Questions

Okay, I attended the High School Summer Scholars Program at Washington University this summer (summer preceding my senior year of high school). I was chosen out of 80 students for outstanding leadership and was given a $500 scholarship and a "Dean's Leadership Award". I was wondering if this qualified as "academic" honors and how I would list this on the common application, as it was during the summer AFTER my junior year and was awarded by a university, not my high school.

I was thinking about just putting "Dean's Leadership Award", 11th, and "School" but that seems ambiguous, because it wasn't at my high school or during my junior year. Should I put "Dean's Leadership Award at Washington University"?

I also had a question regarding the extracurricular activities section. The majority of my time outside of school is spent at home watching my two baby siblings and helping my parents around the house. Should I list this as an extracurricular activity, and how would I quantify my hours spent? I was also going to elaborate in greater detail in the additional information section and probably use it as a hook for my essay.

Also, could I use this summer program as an extracurricular activity?

I’d put the summer program down as an extracurricular activity, because I think of academic honors as more like certificates and stuff, not really a time commitment.

Yes, you can put down watching your siblings and helping your parents as extracurricular. As for hours, just put down an estimate. What would you need to elaborate on in the additional info section?

In the additional information section I would elaborate on watching siblings/staying around house because it might be kind of ambiguous otherwise.

I was thinking about putting the summer program in the extracurricular program, but the award was only given to one person so it wasn’t really a time commitment, although I did get it while I was at the program. That’s why I’m kind of torn on that, because it was basically a certificate for being a strong role model at the program.

Why not put the certificate in academic honors, and the actual program under extracurriculars?
