I was looking at the UPenn Apps Awards/Prizes/Honors section and pondered of what to put in these areas?

I have several small, state-level awards, but is it work listing? Also, I did a summer Math-Science Honors Program at ASU, so does that go in this field?

Might I ask how importance is this field? Does the awards need to be highly distinguishable?

Awards, prizes, and honors are things for which you were selected. So if your essay won first place in a school-wide competition, that would be something you would list. It would also include being a national merit semi-finalist, National Honor Society, etc. List the biggest things first. Most students, for example, belong to the NHS, but it sounds like you have some things that go beyond this. State-level awards are great. Most people do not have lines of national awards, they are students who have perhaps been recognized for local community service or academic achievement. It sounds like the honors summer program is not really in the same category unless it was extremely competitive to get into. Even then this would probably do better going in a section about how you spent your summer.

Like the rest of an application, this is important in that it reveals something about who you are, what's important to you, and how you distinguish yourself in your school or community. It is an opportunity for you to do this.
