Awards/Honors section of the common app

<p>Hi all, </p>

<p>I had a quick common app question. What types of honors are you allowed to list in the awards/honors section of the common app? I believe that it says "academic" honors, but how strictly do they want you to adhere to that? Would an essay contest (not necessarily completed for your school) be listed in that section? What about a journalism contest?</p>

<p>You can/should put ANY award you have received. Community service awards, writing awards, academic awards, music awards (or honors) etc should be there. If you are going to run out of room, leave out any school awards first, such as department awards or principal’s awards.</p>
