I am a junior and I have started hearing people talk about awards they have received andmthe part it plays in admissions, so I was wondering where one may obtain these sort of awards... seeing as how I have none and my school does not have any competitions or recognition awards. Thanks!

apply for merit based scholarships to your regions. those are also count as awards i think.
like … Scholar. lol

You pursue competitions in something you are good at. For example, as my name implies I like art. So every year I enter various local, regional and national art competitions which results in me winning awards. You can also pursue awards for overall achievement (I got Carson Scholar, which looks at grades, recommendations, community service and ECs)…

Thanks, but what arevsome names of competitions?

Some people are accepted to very competitive schools without winning any major awards. Since you are a junior, it isn’t too late for you to sign up for some competitions that deal with your ECs (music competitions, art competitions). Search for them on the internet. There are also competitions that deal with foreign languages if you are good at them. I took the National Latin Exam last year and got a nice award for my performance. I think there is also a similar exam for Spanish.
