What kind of awards does someone need to get into an Ivy League school such as Brown?
Assume that this person has a great GPA, top 5% of class, 2200+ SAT, glowing recommendations, and great application essays.
Is it likely that they will have needed to garner several county or state awards to put them over the edge? Do school awards, such as 1st place in a certain schoolwide contest, mean anything, or are those negligable? If you don't have one special talent, but rather a wide variety of interests and hold three or four leadership positions in separate activities, will this detract from your app? Has anyone here without prestigious prizes/awards made it into an Ivy League (or Ivy League calibur) school?

someone who knows what they are talking about should answer to this cause i'm curious too...
