I’m a sophomore in high school, and I did horribly for my first two years. After 8th grade I was diagnosed with POTS syndrome and homeschool was recommended but I was worried about college so I stayed at school. My gpa is about a 3.3 right now and I miss a lot of school. I have recently started new meds and I’ve been at school more often. Next year I’m taking AP English, AP US History, AP Music Theory, Regs Precal, Regs Physics, Choir (which I’m getting an honors credit for) and AVID. I really think I can do this heavy coursework because before I got sick I was in the IB prep program and I was doing fine, plus I don’t think I have much of a choice now. Also, I took the PSAT this year and got two questions away from a perfect score so I’m hoping that when I start studying for it I can get the perfect score on the real thing. I’m going to be in my schools varsity choir next year, on the whiz quiz team, and on JWAC and the worldquest team.
My top two schools are Texas A&M and UT Austin. Everyone in my family went to Baylor but I’m paying for college entirely by myself so I’m not really considering private schools. Do you think that with my GPA and my SAT scores I can get in?
It sounds as if you have good cause for the lower grades. You can always use essays to explain the reasons. Just keep doing what you are doing. Great job on the PSAT by the way- it sounds like you should be able to qualify for National Merit.
I’m confused. Have you already gotten a perfect score on the actual SAT or are you predicting it based on your near-perfect PSAT score?
Try to bring up your GPA and get NMF status. Then you may get full tuition scholarships from many schools.
