awkward freshman nervous about life.

Hello, I am currently in 9th grade attending Jasper high School in plano.
Jasper is a very competitive school in Plano, TX, Aad I’m not one of the top students in the school. We received our rankings and I received a ranking of top 30%. I know that is horrible. I received 3 B’s in 3 core classes last semester and now I am about to receive 4 B’s in all my core classes this semester. I know I’m not a great student and I don’t have many extra curriculars except I’m in HOSA and Math Club but I have not won any competitions or anything for them. MY goal is to get a free tuition ride in UTD (Academic Distinction) do you guys have tips ot help me get that and prepare to get it throughout highschool.

My grades were all around low A’s and mid-high B’s

It’s only freshman year, and colleges understand that you might be having trouble adjusting to the competitive atmosphere of your high school.

Freshman grades matter the least, and if you can pick up your game by junior year, the uptrend will probably do your transcript a world of good. Just don’t give up, do things, study harder, and set goals for yourself.

Some tips would probably be to not back away from challenging courses, but to also know what your limit is. Don’t take a course that you KNOW you won’t do well in. Get informed and make a smart decision. Also, extracurriculars are important, but producing a laundry list for the college isn’t that great. Do what you’re interested in and try to get a leadership position (those always look nice). Maybe you like math, but is it something you can excel in? If yes, try to get more involved. You can also do things outside of your school in your community. The options are endless.

Good luck!
