Do you all think it's weird to ask current high school teachers for recommendations for another high school. In other words, asking for a recommendation to another high school, implying that I'm leaving? What if I don't get into that school end up staying at my current school. Would that be unbearably awkward? Either way I am going to ask for them based on my desire to go to the school or not just want to know your opinions. Thanks!

I’ve had to ask for recs for another school before. It’s a lot less scary than it seems. Just say something like “I’m going to apply to another school, and I was wondering if you could write me a rec. I’m not for sure going there, just applying and seeing.” I did end up going to the school, but if you present it like that, I’m sure it won’t be too awkward if you don’t go. When in doubt, blame your parents like “my parents really want me to at least apply for this school”.

Okay thank you! That actually helps

Most teachers would be fine with it, especially if they like you and know that this particular school might be a better fit for you- mine were happy to do mine.

Okay thanks! But what about the head of school/counselor rec? Mine don’t know me very well, so do I still have to have only one of them fill it out? Or can it be my advisor or something?

If it says “counselor”, you should be allowed to have your advisor fill it out.

I changed schools for a semester, and I had to do the same thing. My counselors and teachers were willing to fill the recs out because they knew I wasn’t being challenged enough at my current school. It really wasn’t awkward. I moved back a semester later, and there still wasn’t any awkward. Actually, if the teacher really likes you, there probably won’t be any awkwardness. Just relief that you’re staying. :P

oh thanks! what exactly should I say when I ask? I already go to a pretty good private school and I don’t want them to be offended.
