Awkward Rice Students?

Hey, I'm a new member to CollegeConfidential, so sorry if this has been asked. Anyways, I'm currently a Junior in NYC. I'm currently thinking of applying to Rice, not only because it's a great school, but also because I feel that I will fit right in. Although thats if the students are socially awkward like me (lol). However, even though I am socially awkward, I am pretty outgoing amongst other introverts. I don't know why, but I just like making people laugh. So basically, I was wondering if the students at Rice are really as socially awkward many people? Also, could you please provide some personal experiences?

From my experience, while there are indeed socially awkward people at Rice, and while there are introverts at Rice, the idea that this describes a majority of the student body is unfounded.

I’d suggest doing an overnight visit to get a feel for the people and whether you like the community if you can. You’d have to wait until your senior year for that, though.

As far as personal experiences, I don’t really know what to say. I’m an extrovert. And that’s probably an understatement.

While I can’t say a majority of students here are socially awkward, a large portion of Rice students do have those quirks that make us unique and accepting of others. I’d be willing to bet you’ll fit in and love it here. However, I also recommend that you visit overnight in the fall to get a feel for how you might fit in. It’s always a good option with Rice.

Rising senior here- in my experience it’s kind of bimodal. There are a lot of people who I would classify as socially awkward and introverted. And of course even within that category are many different types of people. On the other I’ve also met a lot of people who are quite outgoing and would be considered more “normal”. If I had to leave you with one impression it’s that I truly think that practically any type of person could fit in here. Rice is the most accepting and welcoming community I’ve ever belonged to!

Perhaps an overnight visit is in order, to see for yourself if you feel you would fit in.

Some students can be quirky, but everyones seems to be very accepting and inviting.
