Awkward Situation for Fine Arts Recs

Hi everyone!

I’m just going to get straight to the point.
I’m planning to submit a fine arts portfolio for schools I’m applying to, and some of the schools require a rec letter from my fine arts teacher.

I’ve been with this teacher (let’s call her A) for about 8 years, we have a good relationship, and I know she would write me a wonderful letter if it weren’t for the fact that she’s not entirely fluent in English (it’s her 3rd language).
But I switched teachers last summer because there were too many schedule conflicts with A that it was kind of impossible to match her schedule.
The new teacher (B) doesn’t know me that well, and I don’t think I have an entirely good reputation with her because my practice schedule has been getting lazier with all the APs and apps… hurhurhur But she studied in the US since her Masters? Doctorate? I think, so I think she would write a more “eloquent” letter.

So should I ask A or B for a fine arts rec?

Thank you so much!

IMO, it’s a no brainer. A. When in doubt, always go with the teacher you suspect will write you a better letter of recommendation.

With the possible exception of English teachers, few teacher recommendations will ever win a Pulitzer Prize, nor will colleges expect it. If she’s teaching in the US, I suspect that her English is more than adequate to write a fine rec. Good luck.

Agree with @skieurope. Not even close. Go with the teacher who you know will write you a strong LOR – Teacher A knows you best and likes you. Even if there is a potential grammar error or something in Teacher A’s recommendation it will be the letter that will help admissions officers get to know you better and see you in the best light.

You should ask teacher A.
I’m sure she is gonna put a lot of effort to write and excelent letter for you, and probably when College admissions people read the name of the teacher (no american name) they will forgive any mistake in the paper.

They aren’t going to grade the rec. It’s all about getting to know YOU, not the teacher. Agree with the others.

Thank you so much, everyone!
