Hey guys!
A couple days ago I sent in my application for the AXA Community Scholarship/award.
I was wondering how much competition there usually was for this one and what people’s (who have won in the past) one outstanding achievement (or however they phrase that) usually is and how significant and stuff…thanks so much!
Last year there were 294 winners including myself. I applied with a non-profit I co-founded to match high school students (particularly girls in STEM) with mentors, which spawned another non-profit aimed at funding low income students through paying for testing/CSS Profiles/etc in high school by connecting them with individual/corporate sponsor donors.
What’s the maximum award for this scholarship? I was wondering if I should apply. I don’t think I really have 1 outstanding achievement that’s unique (I’m president of some clubs, do some sports, volunteer a lot etc, all that general stuff). Does doing stuff as president of a club count as an outstanding achievement? I have excell the academic section and other stuff scholarships usually require but I don’t want to waste my time if I don’t qualify for that one outstanding achievement part.
$2500.
Usually I encourage everyone to apply to anything they’re eligible for, but being the president of a club isn’t what this scholarship is for (unless that club has done very significant things in your community – community being outside of high school, too). If you don’t have a unique-ish community service or research oriented (ideally both) achievement, the app probably isn’t worth your time.
AXA is a unique birdy.
My “outstanding achievement” was like a one time thing…not ongoing…I helped a large family, with some foster children, evacuate their home after a flood in May…are they looking for more ongoing stuff or is that acceptable?
I guess it doesn’t really matter since I already applied, but, I don’t know, it’d be nice to know!
I’ve seen both. Just submit and see how it works out.
Do you have any advice for the essays?
Do you have any advice for the essays?
Focus only on one main activity like they instruct, but weave in mentions of other initiatives you’ve worked on if you can.
@Arrowneous The AXA achievement community award? I got selected as a finalist, the scholarship is $15,000 then another $10,000 potentially
The community award is only $2500. The AXA Achievement competition is what is $15,000 (state) and a potential extra $10,000 (national) is for.
Does anyone have a timeline for when we’ll know ? When were things released last year? It’s curnch time on Financial aid for me !
Crickets… Anyone from last year have an idea when they were notified?
