Can somebody talk about the pro's and con's of the academic situation at Vandy? I know that once you're at a school, the academic life plays a big role in your experience. I'm interested in A&S, and I've heard the writing program is pretty rigorous.

thanks!

My D’s experience has been that many of her assignments are writing-based. She only had to take one actual writing course at Vandy due to AP credit & transfer credit from another school she attended freshman year; it was a 200-level course. She was happy to find that only one student in her class was a “real” English major. Everyone else was in the class to fulfill AXLE requirements. She doesn’t read fiction (prefers non-fiction) & she doesn’t like to analyze fiction, but she does write well. That is helpful, since so many courses are writing-intensive. There is a writing studio where students can get one-on-one help with writing if they want. She hasn’t used it, but her roommate has.

AXLE has so many choices. You should be able to find plenty of classes that interest you within the AXLE framework.
