Aycock

How's Aycock like? Did anybody else get assigned to Aycock?

I was in Jarvis, which is exactly like Aycock only across the quad, so I can comment a bit on the rooms/location.

IMHO, these dorms are pretty much like giant houses. Carpet halls, drywall walls, hardwood floors...so my room never felt like a typical dorm room at all. For the most part, the rooms are pretty huge, and if you're lucky you'll have two huge closets as well. My roommate and I actually put our dressers in our closets to save space, and I still had room to change/move around in mine...it was amazing. Unless they've gotten new furniture in the past 2 years, beds aren't lofted, but some of them are bunked. This, of course, can be easily changed if you would rather not have bunk beds. Pretty much, I miss my room in Jarvis so much...and I'm sure Aycock will be equally as wonderful!

When it comes to location, you really don't get much better. It's a quick walk to the Marketplace, and 2 seconds from the bus stop so if it's really cold and rainy you can just sit and wait for a bus in the foyer of Aycock...it's awesome. Aycock is also right next to White Lecture Hall and East Duke (Art History, Women's Studies), and across the quad from Carr (History, a lot of random classes) and West Duke (you'll find a lot of intro math/language classes may be here), so you're pretty close to some of the class buildings which is nice as well!

I lived in Aycock, and I liked it a lot. Close to the buses, close to classroom buildings, and big rooms with big closets. The only downside I can think of is the semi-long walk to the marketplace and having to walk across the quad to Carr for eprint. But other than that, I couldn't have asked for a better dorm.
