Ayn Rand Essay Contest (The Anthem)

Did anyone else apply? I just got an email saying that I wasn't one of the winners :( I've just been losing everything (everything!) lately....

Gads, dear one. Do more research. The Ayn Rand is big money – so it draws every homeschooler who has bags of time to craft an essay. It also is . . . based on a particular view of the world and your essay would surely need to show your own convictions on that path.

Most of the big dollar deals that are stand alone scholarships are going to be tough to get. But take heart. Only 20% of scholarships are stand alone deals. The other 80% are through the colleges themselves.

This means that you won’t know if you got the Happy College Bessy Best scholarship for Aspiring Oboe players until you 1) apply to Happy College and 2) fill out a FAFSA to let Happy College know you’d like some money and, perhaps, 3) auditioned for the music program. At long last, in April of your senior year you get a letter that says “Welcome to Happy College. You have earned the Bessy Best scholarship of $$$.”

I kinda hate the FastWeb and books that make it sound like any eager kid can earn bundles of scholarship dollars. I am seeing differently among local students. Most earn $1K to $5K in local scholarships — unless they are athletes or tippy top students.

That’s ok. You can get down the road stitching together lots of small wins (plus work plus prudent choices plus taking things like testing for credit).

Anyway, any of the big $$$ scholarships are . . . very, very tough nuts to crack.

I applied! I still haven’t heard from them though… :frowning:

What grade are you in? Maybe you can still apply next year?
As for myself, I just finished grade 10, so this is my last chance for anthem.

I applied, still waiting…(I’ll post any results) Wish me luck!

Okay at this point I seriously don’t think they’re going to e-mail me back. But they said they e-mail everyone… Hmm strange

I just got an email, I’m a semifinalist. Trying to be happy, but kinda disapointed

Congrats! Seriously, good for you… I’m pretty sure thousands of people enter these contests, so getting anything at all is pretty big. Anyways, it’s $30 you wouldn’t have had otherwise, right?

I still haven’t heard anything :(

Has anyone heard back about The Fountainhead contest? I know it had a later deadline, but the site says we’re supposed to be contacted by the 27th.

I thought both anthem and the fountainhead said the 26th

The FAQ in The Fountainhead section says the 26th, but the general FAQ says the 27th. So… who knows. :(

Yeah I saw the same thing for anthem. Disappointing… I actually thought my essay was pretty good
