some of you may not have heard of it, but it's a small Christian college in CA. I was wondering if any of you have actually been there or know anything about it. I may want to apply

I have not visited but have looked at their programs and have a close friend who has sent both of his daughters there. He and his daughters speak highly of the education they have received, and especially of the close-knit and supportive feel of the student body and administration. It has become a bit more selective in the past few years - no longer the safety it once was. If APU appeals to you, you might want to also check out Biola, Westmont, and Point Loma Nazarene for similar cultures and atmospheres.

is there med program good?

Their pre-health science program is very good.

Hey Magic,

I am a current student at APU and have many friends in the Applied Health, Med and Nursing depts/schools. (I am double-majoring in commercial vocal performance and counseling psychology, myself.)
I will be having a 1-on-1 with my old Alpha Leader who happens to be a senior in the pre-med program this weekend, so I will be sure to pass your questions on to him and let you know his thoughts!

I would agree with Carolyn's daughters concerning the community here. I had the opportunity to work with many of our incoming freshmen this year through the freshmen orientation, transition and personal development programs and the most common response concerning what they liked about APU was the community and relationships they were immediately enveloped in. If you would like more information, please feel free to send me a private message and I would happy to assist you in whatever way I can!

Mike

If you are academically inclined I would have to recommend Biola University over APU. The sports are comprable but Biola is widely considered to be the better school academically.

Just my 2 cents.

i applied to apu and am going there in the fall...i would highly recommend it...i haven't even BEEN there and already my admissions counselor has made me feel sooooo welcome =)

hmm... depends on the program.
Biola is seen as better in certain areas and pretty inferior in others.

Jenn,
I'm glad your admissions counselor has made you feel so welcome.
I hope your Alpha Leader, Strengths Counselor, RA, and the rest of the student and professional staff do as well, and I am confident they will.
Where are you assigned to live next year?

Mike

I disagree - Biola's reputation is significantly stronger than APU's in terms of academics. Particularly with Biola's recent dramatic improvements to fascilities.

i hear biola has a great theology program.

i also hear that apu and biola have a rivalry.

Biola has arguably the top UNDERGRADUATE theology program in the country (90 + units for the major alone, requiring 2 years of study of ancient biblical languages, extremely low prof to student ratios, and arguably the most motivated group of students in the country). Biola is also known for it's excellent philosophy program and has a highly regarding regional nursing program. It's engineering program, which is a dual degree with the University of Southern California, is also highly well regarded via the relationship with USC.

APU simply doesn't shine on a National Stage in any academic arena, hence the large dichitomy between the schools. Most APU students will tell you point blank that Biola has a better academic reptuation, but it is too strict or too religous. Plus APU does have a football team. That's really the trade off.

sorry for replying so late >.<
i'll be living in engstrom...i can't wait!
