Someone give me the link to the music?

Dw, found it.

Just thought I'd "chime in" (sorry) on the perfect/relative pitch discussion, if that is okay...

I am one of the "relative" pitch-types of which you spoke (with my screen name, you might gather that is a valuable thing and you would be correct). My son, though, is of the "perfect" pitch variety. As a professional musician (singer/songwriter/bass player) he amazes me quite often. Recently, our gas grill began making a strange humming sound as the gas was turned on....son thought for a sec and said it was a C#; ran downstairs to the studio to check and he was correct. Good grief!

Hahahahahaha that's awesome! What a musical nerd!

eeeeegggggssssss--actly!

He would agree, by the way!

One of the songs that he sings in their shows starts with just a vocal line (he sings lead on most songs) and he just pulls that out of thin air in the middle of their set. It amazes me every time...

Just keep him away from public toilets.

I posted my favorite recording of that Mendelssohn piece at http://aljex.aljex.com/steve/personal/ , all 4 movements. Eugene Istomin is awesome, he makes it sound so simple, and in the background he's quietly going crazy with arpeggios and runs.

This is true, very nice recording; I like when you can tell when the player's emotion flows freely through their instrument....Now I wanna play both the piano and violin parts. Maybe I'll add them to my admissions video :P; I should have them down by then.

LOL.... 10char

OK mr. big talker, let's make a bet: I wager $20 that there is no way in hell you can learn to play that piano part, in tempo, "largely mistake free" (I won't be anal but it can't be crap), by september 1st. First movement only. You owe me $10 if you accept and fail. That's 2-1 odds.

You live in the Jerz, so we can do this live (i'll supply the piano), or you can record it and send it around. Either way, this might be the most money you ever make from your piano career.

What say you?

Here come the excuses.

hahaha what the heck? im like getting ready for college and making the most out of the time with my girl. if i find a free copy of the song then we can make a bet from that date or something. but na i make usually 20-25 an hour in tips at this italian restaurant whenever i feel like goin to a lunch or dinner and i make 25 an hour for my church. (i guess GS_Banding was right)...

Fine, that's not enough money to motivate you? I thought you were some hot-shot pianist who did this stuff all the time. You name the stakes, I'll give you 2-1 odds. Hell, i'll even lend you my copy of the sheet music if you come into town to borrow it.

I spent 13 years playing the piano, the majority of it practicing 2-3 hours a day, every day. I had a really good teacher, too (I didn't deserve him at all). This piece, and the Schumann piano concerto, were far and away the toughest things i've ever done. It took me a good 3-4 months to get the 1st movement into playing shape. If you can do it in 1 month, without being A) exclusively a musician for your entire life, B) a professional who's masquerading as a college applicant, or C) the kid from "Shine", I want to see it done. And I enjoy the piece enough that I'm willing to pay for the privilege.

Name your stakes, I'll offer 2-1 odds. My $100 to your $50? Put your money where your mouth is, or have your mouth stick to kissing "your girl".

edit: this isn't fair at all, you realize, because of post #7:

that was uncalled for sir...even though i've had no classical training....I challenge you! Haha im kind of serious, if we ever meet though...

...and from that, post 18:

But I'm not gon lie and say I can do that immediately; I would need to beast on both my dexterity and a good month or so of practice.

really, it's ok to say "yeah, I totally overstated that - there's no way i could get that all done". But if there's one thing I know well, it's arrogance. Sometimes people can back it up, but usually they can't handle being called out on it.
