I just got my final grades for freshman fall semester. I got A on Organic Chem, A on Biology, and A on History 101. But I got B+ on my freshman requirement class. The sad part is that I don't even know why I got B+ (I got A- at the midterm) because I never missed a single point in the assignments in class and he never put the score for our oral and written final score. So I just checked my grade yesterday to see a big fat B+.

How is this viewed as med school admission? I know that one B or C won't hurt you (unless it's in the science course) that much but still, B+ in freshman requirement class seems to have a plausible chance of being mocked at. But trust me, my professor never put any grade up in the internet so we couldn't even tell how we were doing in class.

im going to get a B+ in a class that people(med schools) actually care about.

MY life sucks more.

just kidding.

but i’ve spent enough time lurking on this forum and reading posts of anxious freshman with their B+ worries…so i prepared myself for the possibility as I know I have neurotic tendencies… and am going to take it in stride and so my best to get an A in the second part of the class next semester…because honestly at this point in the game it is way too early to tell if med schools will choke and then giggle at a B+ and immediately deny us admission.

With 2.5 more years of grades and so many other factors…probably not.

so go ahead get mad for a little bit…because it does suck that you had to “waste” a B on an easy class, but seriously, you got an A in orgo?

Thanks for the feedbacks! I appreciate it a lot. I apologize for that statement (the one that I would be more likely to be mocked).
I don’t know but organic chemistry was my favorite class this semester. My advisor is actually my organic chemistry professor (I declared my major as biochemistry), and I thought it was fun to see those electrons move… at least for now. :)

My comment wasn’t necessarily directed at you but we get a lot of these types of posts where someone is getting a C+ in a class and is freaking out about it: the standard “I’m getting a C, am I done for med school?” post. Let’s do the math: there are approx. 7 factors on your application (GPA, MCAT, essays, extracurriculars, recommendations, demographics (residency, race, etc.), interview. Assuming you take around 30 courses in college, this one grade counts as 1/30 of one factor (GPA). So, it’s ridiculous for anyone to freak out about any single class.
