B grade in AP Biology

So...I just took the final exam for AP Bio and got the final grade of 87%
I tried so hard to maintain my A's, but now I got my first B.
It's so painful, it's as if I'm heartbroken...

When I told my parents about my first B, they suggested that I shouldnt take AP classes anymore if I'm just going to get B's in them.
Is an A in a regular class better than a B in AP?

and how do you guys cope with a bad semester grade? How do you deal with the feeling of failure? I know most of you here are the ultimate high school students! But despite all of your achievements, there must have been a time where things didnt go as planned and you ended disappointed. How did you deal with that?

depends on where u want to go
87 unweighted isnt too shabby
ask for extra credit if possible

Don’t fret. What did you get on the AP exam? If a 4 or 5, then the B won’t matter. And while the grade may be permanent, you shouldn’t allow it to make you feel ashamed. That won’t do you any good. I would try to strengthen whatever weaknesses were evident to you during the class.

I’m just going to be a real jerk about this.

Suck it up, too bad. It’s not the end of the world. You are being an idiot about this. Yes, continue taking AP classes. An A in an AP class is best of all, but take AP classes, unless you’re getting C/D’s in them, which you’re not.

Congratulations, you got a B, you’re now imperfect and human, just like normal people.

Oh gawd…

Your parents need to wake up to reality.

Failure? F means failure, B means above average.

No not really, I’m sure there are people on here who tell a few fibs. But even those who tell the truth (which is admittedly most people on here), this is seriously the 1%…most average people aren’t obsessed with going to college as much as the people on here, and the average people make up literally like 97% of the world.

Uh…you don’t? Because normal people get B’s and it’s not the end of the world?

Don’t fret, nobody’s perfect. I got my first (and last) B in algebra in the 8th grade, and that has haunted me and my GPA into the 12th grade, as I am an ultra-perfectionist and hate not seeing that big 4.0. However, you WILL get over it, it’s just one class. Use it to motivate you to go better in the rest of your classes. Algebra was my first high school class, so I guess I wasn’t used to working so hard. However, now I work twice as hard in all my classes to ensure I get the grade I want and deserve.

I got my only B in a gym class. How about that?

I suggest putting this into perspective and moving on. What’s the worst thing that could happen as a result of this?

I regularly get B’s in Pre-Cal honors… and I’m perfectly okay with it. I’ve kind of accepted that I’m not as naturally strong in math than I am in history or English. People get B’s. B’s are respectable grades. The people on this website, myself included, are crazy. This forum suggests that after high school, you have one of two options:

1) Harvard University
or
2) Homelessness

There are kids who would be thrilled to get a B in a regular course, not to mention an AP course.

AP Bio was my first B too. It wasn’t as bad for me because I was fully expecting it, but I think the best thing to do is forget about it. The school year is over, go enjoy your summer and do fun things. That B will soon just be a memory.

I’m sorry, but this is one of the funniest threads I have ever read.

suck it up… just because you don’t go to harvard doesn’t mean you won’t be successful.

Don’t get mad at the kid. His feelings are almost certainly a product of his parents’ ridiculous expectations, unless, of course, if he’s a ■■■■■.

Good luck at community college!

At the end of the day, a B doesn’t make any difference.

This thread right here, this thread, makes me want to throw my computer out the window. Have lollipop and go watch some T.V.

LOL we’re in the exact same situation. i got my first(and probalby only) B in freshman AP biology, so as you probably can emphathize i REALLY hate that class! what grade are you in? if you’re a freshman, tell yourself MOVE ON. No one cares that much about freshman year, and we all make mistakes. even if you’re a sophomore, it wont make that much of a difference. if you’re a junior, with a good sat and other A’s you are still fine too.
as to whether an A is better in a regular class is very complicated. say three people, person 1 and person 2 and person 3. lets say person 1 took ALL honors/AP’s, and person 2 took mostly honors/AP’s but with a few regular classes mixed in. person 3 took a few honors courses, but mostly regular classes. person 1 has a uwgpa of 3.7 and person 2 has an uw gpa of 4.00. person 3 has an uw gpa of 4.00. IMO person 2 is far better off than person 1 and 3.

I hope I don’t come off as an a-hole saying this. But you are freaking out over something very insignificant. AP Biology is one of the harder AP Classes and 99% of people would be satisfied with an 87, and as long as you get a 4 or 5 on the AP Exam it shouldn’t even matter that much, AP Biology is weighted on your GPA, so your B in that class is worth an A on your GPA. And I’ve heard even a C in an AP class looks better than an A in a regular class in some instances.

And your parents could not be more wrong about you not taking AP Classes because you are getting B’s. Colleges will be much more impressed with your B’s in an AP class than your A’s in a regular class.

an 87 in AP bio is actually pretty good…

and a C in an AP is better than an A in CP classes IMO

^No, it’s not. Certainly not in college’s eyes.

Stresseddouttt that could not be farther from the truth…

Hey! Im sorry about this i know how u feel about it. And i must say that most of the comments above r just so rude… people need to understand that just because they dont have high expectations for themselves doesnt meen that others need to do the same  In my opinion, i think taking AP with Bs is better than regular classes because colleges will understand that this is not just any class and thats why the AP grades are weighted. I encourage u to take more AP and good luck with all of them! Do your best and prepare for them in the summer by buying the review books or getting them from a local library. :)
