B- in AP Bio but always do bad on tests?

So I'm a sophomore at a pretty competitive academic public high school. I have a freakin B- in AP bio and always do never better than a C on the tests. I can apply my knowledge of the material to discussions and such but never test well.

I do very well on the labs and projects we are assigned but those in my view are easier than these damn tests. When I look at colleges and they look at my transcripts will they go deep into my classes like tests and stuff. I just want to go to a good college and I hope my poor test grades in this class won't give them a bad influence on my understanding of this course.

One last thing would a B- be considered good in a AP course vs an A in a level II class. (we don't have honors Bio for some reason). And will colleges be impressed and see I challenge myself?

Thanks guys!

AP Biology isn’t easy. I’m taking it also, and on my first test, I got a C and on my second test I got a B. this class is really labor intensive. After each test, we analyze our test scores and create a chart of our MC percentages, FR percentages, Grid-in percentages and essay percentages. We do this so we can compare our old test with our new test to determine what we need to work on. This really helps us focus on what part of the test is giving us the most trouble. A B- in that course isn’t bad at all. First term, I got a 85, and right now I’m pushing to keep my 94 lol.

Are you studying for the tests?

AP Biology isn’t really a hard class - in fact most of the concepts are extremely easy to grasp - but what makes it tough is that there is a LOT of information to memorize. Unless you have an outstanding teacher, you NEED to be studying from your book if you want to do well.

The projects and discussions you only need a broad knowledge of a topic comes in. Reading the chapter and studying is where all the details are at that you’ll find on the test.

Have you noticed a trend somewhere with what you’re sturuggling with on the tests? What specifically with it about the tests that freaks you out? Have you talked to your teacher about how to improve your performance?

If you did poorly on the first test, that’s fine-- a lot of people do. But what’s important is that you learn from what you did-- so change what you’re doing and how you’re studying to try to work at fixing whatever part of the test is giving you trouble.

And no, transcripts do not typically show individual assignment grades, just the final and cumulative grade.

Oh gosh, the average test grades in my AP bio class is like a 60%… No curves for us either.

Bio can be super easy or super hard depending on your teacher. For example, my teacher loves putting information we never learned on our tests… even if you study and memorize the notes and know your stuff, we have tests where the highest grade in the class is a 82%.

The Campbell tests are rough. You can’t just have stuff memorized; you have to be able to apply it to other situations. Other than a fluke 108%, highest I’ve gotten on one of those tests was a 91%.
