I’m a senior waiting on her first semester grades to come in and her mid-year report to be sent to the colleges I applied to. I’ve established myself on my applications as someone interested in non-STEM subjects (politics, government, foreign languages, music, etc.) and have quite solid/unique extracurriculars for all of my interests - enough to tentatively give me a pretty good shot at top colleges, I like to think.
Senior year, I challenged myself by taking AP Physics C, but unfortunately I believe I’m going to end up with a B- on my mid-year report (around an 83 or 84). If that happens, it would be my only B in any high school class, ever. However, I’m reaching for some pretty selective schools for my top choices (think Ivies and other similar-caliber schools with low acceptance rates), who I’ve gathered have hundreds of applicants like me who got straight A’s in high school, including in classes like AP Physics. I understand that colleges look at an application holistically, and I read that to mean if you get a B+, it won’t doom you - but my grade will be more on the lower end. Considering that I’m not planning to go into a STEM field, will this B- crush my chances? Or am I being the stereotypically over-worried overachiever (lol)?
