Hey guys!
I am a junior in high school and took Multivariable Calculus at a nearby Community College during this past fall semester. I received a B- in the course and was wondering if sending my transcript to colleges would hurt my chances. I would like to do Pre-Med and should get college credit for mathematics since I passed the course. I haven't taken any other math class this year since I took BC Calc as a sophomore and got a 5. I will take AP Stats next year. Any ideas??????? Should I send my transcript along with my application????? I plan on applying to UMICH, Wayne, or other Fast track Med Programs.

I don’t believe that you have an choice about that. Check the requirements.

I did not dual enroll thus the grade will not show up on my high school transcript. I took the class on my own time and with my own money… I want to know if it will hurt my application…

I don’t think it will hurt it. But it doesn’t matter that you took it on your own time or money. It is part of your academic history now. Any grad or med school will require that you submit transcripts from all colleges you attended. I’m pretty sure that undergrad colleges will too, so as I said, check the requirements.

I’d like to get a B- in Multivariable, and I’m betting there’s a lot of admissions officers who would have liked to be able to do the same thing==WHEN THEY WERE HIGH SCHOOL JUNIORS! It shows your ambition and preparation for college math. It’s a plus.

I think a B- in Calc 3 is neither very helpful nor harmful. But I don’t think you’re going to find that you get a choice about whether to report it or not.

The bad news: college courses taken while in high school will affect your pre-med college GPA for the purpose of applying to medical school.
