B in Calc after being deferred = all chances ruined?

So I got deferred at Penn on Friday, and I have the worst calc teacher ever =/

I will def be getting a B in that class, and I have a generally flawless record up until now. I applied to Huntsman ED, CAS alternate (though i HIGHLY doubt huntsman is a possibility now lol) but is it okay if I have a B on my mid-year report, which apparently is looked upon very critically?

Personally, I don't believe I was initially deferred due to grades since I have had almost all A's in our school's most difficult courseload so I'm not sure how strongly this will influence me... =/

yeah you have no shot now!

No, send in more stuff that is advantageous to you and I’m sure you will have a great opportunity in attending. That is what I did; I flooded them with materials.

It might set you back a bit but they seem to be fairly understanding. . .my math stats were far from perfect but I’m still in at wharton. If I were you I would send a letter stating that UPenn is still your #1 pick, submit a new rec letter, try to retake a standardized test in January, and would write the optional essay (if you didn’t already). I’m sorry things didn’t work out for you this round and I wish you the best of luck RD

Would a rec letter from the same teacher be redundant (although the teacher does have a lot to say about me) i was also a deferree, though not at penn

^^ yeah i think it would be. like if your teacher has more to say about you then maybe the initial recommendation he/she sent for you wasn’t that good? just a thought

also, would the february ACT date be too late?

i thought mid-year reports werent heavitly weighted in decisions? is it more heavily weighted for deferrees than RD’ers?

Calculus BC or AB? I know that, if you are in Calc BC, even a C is okay, because they realize how difficult that course is

I’m no expert, but I doubt it will be looked upon critically. I’m sure that the adcoms understand how difficult AP Calculus BC is.

if AB? 10 char

I don’t think it will help you… I’ve never received a B but I still didn’t get in.
So obviously since you were deferred rather than rejected they saw something that they liked.
Just send in other information that could add to your application.

Wait… BC calc is “hard” even for wharton?

Because I went A-B in that class as a freshman and I was kinda scared…

No, I’m in AB =/ I hope that’s not going to seal my fate lol

But I just found out today that I was deferred for the Huntsman program but if that doesn’t work out then my app will be send to my second choice, CAS. I guess that gives me a bit of hope since at first I was thinking I was deferred at CAS. I’m a little paranoid now because I think maybe if I sent my app to CAS I would’ve been accepted lol. Oh well.

I can’t do much more about my Calc grade at this point…it kinda is what it is. They can take me if they want… i kind of just feel like I’ve done the best I could possibly have done until this point and im going to try not to stress too much about that Calc grade lol
