So I took an English test on Friday and I thought that is was going to get 90+. I got a 75. I couldn’t believe it because i studied very hard for that test. Now I know that I can’t change anything and my final grade for english is a B+. Did I screw up my chances at Ivy Leagues and competitive colleges? And, considering my B+ in honors english 10, should I take AP Lang in 11th grade? By the way I plan on majoring in international studies.
One B+ won’t change your chance. They’re looking for well rounded students with interests outside of school, and if you don’t get accepted the B+ would have had no factor. Good luck and don’t sweat the small stuff!
If that is your semester grade, don’t you have a chance to pull up the grade before the end of the year?
Also, one B+ will not make or break you. For example, I had a B+ in honors chem and a B in AP Calc and was accepted to Georgetown University SFS EA. While this is only one anecdote, there are plenty out there where students with one or two B-range grades were accepted to top universities.
Also, talk to your teacher and find out what you didn’t get right. Then try to understand why you didn’t get it right. Did you not read? Did you read but not remember? DId you not put concepts together? Ask if you can work with the teacher to “redo” the test questions (for no credit), but just so you can see what A work looks like from you. Then time, start going to your teacher’s office hours ahead of time and ask questions.
