B in the class, 5 on the test?

Im a sophomore in highschool and this year is killing me with 3 Bs first semester and I hope none this semester. My AP world history teacher is crazy and makes essays 50% of your grade and I fail miserably on them, as does everyone else. With a 79.1 average for all her ap world classes, I have around a 88 or so and can't break that A! If I get a 5 (which I think I can) on the AP test, does that make up for a B in each semester.
If I get straight A's my GPA will be: 3.9 (by end of soph. year)
If I get one B (in apwh) my GPA will be: 3.8666 (by end of soph. year)
I am pretty sure I can get 3.9+ GPA (by ED) is that decent for Cornell with a rigourous schedule?
I shouldn't have taken that class..

Trust me, you’ll be fine. Anybody who gets this worked up over a B in an AP class isn’t going to get rejected for their grades. You’d be better off exploring your interests and doing some extracurricular stuff you’re passionate about.

^^^^ Exactly, what Malan said. I think you’ll break that barrier and hit an A. Couple that with a 5 on your AP Exam and you’ll be good to go. I hope you have ECs also to go along with your stats :)

APWH doesn’t get you any credit at Cornell, no matter how you do. :frowning: that’s kind of nice though, because you shouldn’t worry too much about 4 vs. 5.

also, even though I took that class quite a while ago now, my main recommendation for the actual AP exam (rather than whatever weird tests your teacher gives) is that you should read your textbook! it will take a long time but you’ll have that random knowledge you need for the essays.

Thanks guys, For ECs… I am in 3 clubs that I really like and I will be a member for all 4 years of HS, hopefully I can be an officer in one or two. Besides those and some awards I get with them, I just love to volunteer at this local nursing home. I will probably have around 500 to 750 hours before ED. Can I make up for sophomore year with a solid junior year?

Faustarp: That is too bad that they don’t give any credit, even elective credit for AP World. I don’t understand that, but have noticed that is the one AP that sometimes doesn’t get credit at various places. Many will give credit for AP Euro but not World which makes no sense to me. Does anyone know why that is?

Hey guys I’m new to this site; how do you create a new thread?

manooj:

go here:

[Cornell University - College Confidential](Cornell University - College Confidential Forums)

towards the left side you’ll see “new thread” above “Threads in: Cornell University”

You can probably figure out the rest.

I have no idea why college don’t take AP World. my best guess is that it’s too broad geographically and temporally, so it doesn’t match up with any class Cornell or most schools would offer. basically any one chapter (or section of chapters) in AP World would be a whole college course. this is different from, say, APUSH, which just covers one country over a couple of centuries.

My friend got in with a C+ in AP Physics, but she also got a 5 on her AP test, and she got the teacher’s recommendation saying how hard she had worked on the subject. As long as you do something similar to that, you should he fine.

my experience is that state schools are more likely to take AP WORLD…

i would definitely focus more on US HISTORY than WORLD though…
