My top 3 schools are Cornell, Dartmouth and Brown. And up to this point I’ve had a 4.0, but in AP Physics 1 I think I’m only going to be able to pull off a B+. Only one person last year got an A in this class and its really difficult. By senior year I will have taken 8 APs: AP Biology, AP US History, AP World History, AP Physics 1, AP English Lit, AP Calc BC, AP English Lang, and AP Psychology. My entire courseload is either honors, AP or dual enrollment. I got a 1510 on my SAT. Will a B+ in my Junior year absolutely kill my shot at these 3 schools? My cumulative UW GPA would drop to a 3.98.
If any college rejects you for a B+, IMO, they would have rejected you with an A.
It’s a shame students are worried about a single B+ on their transcript. Just goes to show the influence of grade inflation.
I don’t think it would entirely ruin your chances. I have been an A student my entire life and am also freaked out at the idea of a B+, but it’s understandable to have a B in one or two areas. A 0.02 GPA drop isn’t significant (at least it isn’t in my mind). Colleges will take note in comparison to other candidates, but it won’t make or break your acceptance.
Colleges won’t care if you only have 1 B+ amid a sea of As in hard courses gl!
Welcome to life!!! You will find in college that you may not always earn an A. Later, you will probably find that you are not every job you applied for and did well at the interview. Although you seem successful, disappointments will come your way. Relax, learn to wait patiently, and even grapple with acceptance at more than one dream school. Stressing about things you performed well although less than desired and fretting over things you can’t control is a terrible waste of time.
