My kids have had BofA accounts for going on 7 years now. Never a problem. BofA also gives free student VISA cards. They've only had those a few months; they have the advantage that they can look at their account online and pay it by direct transfer.

My kids have BofA accounts-no problems at all. We liked the idea that we could quickly transfer $ from here in an emergency and there are branches close to the campuses so the kids could go in and talk to a human in person if they had a problem. Some upperclassmen cautioned us against the on campus credit union. They said if you move off campus at some time, it is a real pain to have to drive and park at school to use a no-fee ATM.

my-3-sons, Thank you for the tip about the credit union. I never thought about that, but that makes sense. I guess I will need to straighten out my problems with B of A, or find another bank that has a branch close to home as well as near campus.

It's unfortunate that BofA has bought out so many of the regional banks (like fleet, etc.) because I really don't want to bank with them but pretty soon they're going to own every ATM on the east coast.

B of A seems to be the only coast-to-coast bank, and that's an appeal for us, as we're in So Cal while D goes to school in Mass. Makes bi-coastal banking easier during breaks (and for me to help etc). And yes, I see where B of A offers "free" ATM banking in quite a few countries, a plus.

I will be gritting my teeth every moment with them as a bank.

At home we use a federal credit union, but try as they might, they cannot help her where her school is.

We'll see.

Update-Last week, B of A finally removed the 3.95 bank fee from my son's account. A different bank rep took care of the problem. It did take my speaking with 2 reps and waiting a few weeks to stop the bank's charges on my son's student checking account. The second rep was able to correct the problem within a few hours.
