B on Major Requirement Transfer to UC Berkeley

Hi, everyone.
I am a California community college student . I am apply for the next fall semester and major in Statistic. My GPA is 3.8 and it will become 3.73 after this semester since I may get a B on the Multivariable Calculus. What is the possibility of my transferring to UC Berkeley when I got a B on the major requirement.By the way, I am an international student. Thanks everyone!

Can anyone give me some advice?

Math majors in general aren’t expected to have flawless GPAs. Regardless of whether you receive the B, you should still be rather competitive with those stats as a CCC student at any of the UCs.

Of course, you should always apply to multiple UCs regardless of your stats.

thank you! I was wondering what is the acceptance rate of statistic major in Berkeley.

I have no idea how you’ll do re getting in but don’t worry about the B.

I was wondering the chance of tranfering to berkeley

I believe it was 28% for the math department back in 2012. The rate could have gone up or down depending on the trends and the fact that the UCs are planning to accept more applicants from here on out.

You should certainly still apply! You can search the general GPA requirement. It’s not a bad thing if one of the major requirement classes landed you a B. If you feel strongly about it, you can retake the class over the summer.

You can’t retake a B grade. But, anyway, as you said ^^, it will not thwart OP’s chances AT ALL…

@EssayEnthusiast How to I retake the class over the summer? I am applying for fall 2016

Sorry, I was mistaken about retaking a B. I thought I remembered a student of mine petitioning for a retake, but I can’t find anything online to back that up.

I think you’re GPA alone meets the minimum requirement and there’s no real reason to worry about transferring. I helped several students transfer to UCB without A’s in some of the required classes.

If you’re super concerned about it (which I wouldn’t be) you can address it in your application essay (though I’d advise against it). If you present a strong essay with your GPA and your status as an international student, I have confidence you’ll be competitive with the other applicants.

Have you spoken with your professor about your grade?

@EssayEnthusiast, it may well be something unusual transpired that allowed him to retake the B course. Never say never. Something maybe questionable about the professor, for instance.
