B.S Computer Information vs B.S Computer Science

I am confused here, what is the difference bewteen Computer info and computer science?

Computer Science is far broader, covering almost anything having to do with computer software design, theory, applications, etc. Probably requires alot more math and computer theory classes.

Computer Information is most likely similar to other programs like Management Information Systems (MIS), Computer Information Systems (CIS), or other IT degrees. They are more about design, administration and extraction of information (reporting) from computers (databases) typically for business applications. These types of degrees can often be found in Business Schools, requiring more business classes for the degree program.

The best way to determine of the difference between two degrees is to look at the required classes can compare them. Most Computer Science programs usually allows the students to select a tract of electives outside of the core CS and Math classes to “individualize” or specialize one’s degree.

CS is typically harder, but the degree has more respect after graduation. If you can do the math and aren’t scared of the hard work load, choose CS.
