B’s in Accelerated Classes— Harvard

When I was in seventh grade, I took two accelerated classes, which were Geometry and Biology. However, I received a B on both semesters or Geometry and a B on the first semester of biology. Would these affect my chances of getting into Harvard? I am now taking a College Level Japanese class as a freshman; I am also two years ahead in math and one year ahead in science. Would my Geometry and Biology grades serverly affext my chances of admission? Thank for the help!

Do your best as you go through High School.
As a senior, see if your grades/SAT are consistent with Harvard Students and then apply.
Have a variety of reach, match and safety colleges to apply to.
You will be fine.

I have taken the SATS three times already, with my highest score being around 1350.

Your middle school grades won’t matter.

I would ask your guidance counselor. Many states now allow middle schoolers to take high school courses. However, to receive credit for the courses taken, the grades from those HS courses taken in middle school must appear on your HS transcript and are averaged into your high school GPA. So, B’s on HS courses taken in middle school might bring down your overall high school GPA, which might have a negative impact on college admissions – if that is indeed what happens in your state and school district. Ask your GC about it, as it’s very school and state specific and does not apply to every student in every situation. This will differ by school/district. Some show grades, while some just list it as credit. Some calculate into HS GPA, others don’t.

That said, even if the transcript shows grades from the 8th grade (or before) and those grades are calculated into the GPA, no college is going to put any emphasis on them.

Please don’t become the poster child for overtesting. While your scores are great for a freshman, I cannot think of a valid reason for having taken more than once at this point. Slow down and wait until your junior year to take again.

skieurope has wise advice. Try not to think so much about college right now. You are a freshman. Enjoy high school. Follow your interests, work hard, learn to be a good friend, and things will work out for you. Give yourself freshman and sophomore years to explore before focusing on college. Please believe me, thinking too much about college admissions too early will color your high school experience, and not in a good way.

When you do get to the point where focus on college is appropriate, remember there are many many great schools out there. Try not to get fixed on one school or group of schools but find the one that fits you.
