B+'s in AP Classes

If one gets B+'s in AP classes, but a 5 and/or 800 in the respective subject test, does it not hurt as much, particularly for Ivies, T-20 schools? It may hurt the gpa, but doesn't it just mean that the teacher's grading scale is rigorous?

I’d say you the 5 or 800 would make the case for you. In any case, all the T-20 schools seem to care about more than just grades.

Recently, I went to a college fair, and went to a seminar on applying to selective colleges. The college admissions counselor there said that it is perfectly fine to get a B in an AP class, and that what the counsel wants to see is that you’ve taken a rigorous curriculum, and other evidence that you know what you’re doing. So, getting a perfect score on the subject test is definitely a plus, and will probably mean more than your final grade (your AP exam score may be a positive deciding factor, as well).
Oh, and at my school at least, a B in an AP class is equivalent to an A in an Honors class (and B in Honors is equivalent to a C in normal classes, and so on), so your GPA may not be as hurt as you think it is, at least in terms of your weighted GPA.

Top colleges want to see you rise to the challenge when teachers are tough.

Many high schools change the final course grade to an A if you get a 5 on the AP exam; colleges are aware of this practice, so, yes, a B+ does not preclude you from a top school.
More of a problem for students who get an A in the class and a mediocre AP exam grade.

This is reassuring. Generally, at my school we have ~2 teachers for each AP Course, so each one has a different grading system, i.e. some might weight tests very heavily (80%) as opposed to others (who might weight it at 50%)
