What if you dont go to a USNEWS TOP 20 uni or LAC ? Then what?

Its going to be much much harder to get an "elite" finance or management consulting job, but plenty of great firms which are less selective will recruit outside the top 12-15 USNEWS schools and top 5 business schools. Firms like Accenture, PWC, and Bank of America recruit all over the country.

so you are saying that an Econ major from Yale will have an easier time finding an "elite" business job right out of undergrad than a finance/accounting major from say Stern or Ross?

right now i can't decide whether or not im going to ED UPenn-Wharton or EA MIT and rolling UMich-Ross. anyone have any input on this?

Yes. I would say that Yale would give you a better shot. Finance/ consulting firms prefer "elitism" over business training.

^^^^^

that kinda contradicts the spectacular placements ross and stern have. can anyone confirm or deny this

So do the Ivies (and Yale). Ross and Stern do very well, but if you look at the lists of the most elite firms you'll see more Yale.

lol dumba$$ firms only goin for big names.

My school is ranked 50th according to us news rankings. I chose my school because it was the closest to my home and I can't afford to go to a higher ranked school. I can quickly deduce by my school's ranking that I am screwed for the rest of my life. I will not land a great internship during college. Networking will be sub par. When I graduate, my degree will not be worth much just because I came from a poorly ranked business school. Every company I have dreamed of working for will look down on me. I will be working my butt off for some average company making an average salary. I will go for an MBA knowing that I will only get into a low ranked program because of where I had my prior education. I'll be stuck in the same position as I started the job carrying some hope that I might get promoted to manager and get a few benefits. I will remain average...for the rest of my life. Thanks CC Business forums and best of luck to all of you when you become investment bankers making 6 digits and living in +$500000 flats in Manhattan all because you went to your Wharton's and Kellogg's, Thanks, for living my dream.

^^^

R0fl that was hillarious.

I went to Kellogg as well, to their cornflakes factory, but i aint no Ibanker lolololololol

lol cornflakes factory.
how'd you like Kellogg?

It was great, i met coco the monkey. He was wearing a suit an all and he said he was now a hedge fund manager ! I also met tony the tiger, he said he was now an MD in Goldman Sachs but he still liked shoving that spoon full of frosties up his behind lololol

what about biz schools like UVA/ Emory/ ND/ Georgetown (top 25 uni's with business schools). For someone hoping to get an MBA eventually, would it hurt me to major in business, or should I pursue econ?

major in whatever you want to major in
dont judge it based on MBA admissions; it (your major) wont effect you really anyway
