Hi, I have a few questions about B-W, with regards to the MT program. First, how well are students integrated with the school as a whole? How many productions are done each year? And what are common activities on the weekend?

Thanks

Hi, Bob!

Since the Music Theatre Department here is run through the conservatory, most of our classes are in the conservatory buildings. We also have a number of classes over in the theatre/arts building, and our dance classes are held at the rec. center. In addition to the classes required for our major, we have to take some liberal arts classes (a core of Math, English, and a cultural understanding/diversity class). So, though lots of our classes are through the conservatory, we are spread throughout the campus, and can have much interaction with non music majors as one wants!

As far as productions go, there are 2 musicals (This year WILD PARTY and CHESS), at least 2 plays (this year Crimes of the Heart and Blood Wedding), and an opera (this year, Our Town). Through the MT program we also have an evening of new works from new musicals in NY, a small production of a new musical, and the Senior Showcase every year.

On the weekend, we frequently have master classes with active professionals in the business (casting directors and agents that are working in NY now). Those take up the majority of the day on Saturdays! There’s always some kind of performance going on at the conservatory, and our close proximity to Cleveland makes finding things to do easy!
